Residential statement of purpose

Aims

A.Berry Support Services is able to offer personal care and administer medication when required for clients who would be staying in our short and long term respite accommodation . This support can consist of supporting clients dressing with prompts, support to drink or eat, support with washing – using the sink, bath, shower, brushing teeth and shaving through prompts or support if specified in the clients individual care plan.

A.Berry Support services is able to support  with toileting,  we are able supporting by using prompts to use the toilet or to wipe themselves. When required we are able to support clients with personal care.   Our main need for personal care would be to prompt our clients unless specified in their individual care plan that the client requires assistance with personal care.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer a service in which clients are incontinent or need to use hoists.

Objective

To achieve my aims I would need to support up to 4 clients a night to offer respite to parents and carer’s from our base address with the hope that this eventually will become a residential care home.

Having our clients for longer periods of time would mean that for some medication would need to be given for Anxiety, Behaviour, Epilepsy, Headaches, Heartburn etc.  This would usually be given/taken in the mornings or before bedtime – Staff who are trained to administer medication will be able to do this with permission slips from parents/carers.

Clients on overnight respite may require prompts or support to wash, brush their teeth and have a shower/bath. We would need to use verbal prompts and visual aids that will be personalised to the individual client. In some circumstances, our clients may need some help to achieve this. Visual aids will need to be made available in all rooms.

Clients will be prompted to use the toilet through verbal and visual aids and reminded to clean themselves through prompts or with support should it be specified in the client's care plan.

Emergency situations:

Injury – First Aid given to the client by a trained first aider and parent/carer would be contacted.

Sickness - clients would be cleaned up or supported to do so and parent/carer would be contacted to collect or client to be taken home.

Diarrhoea – Client will be supported to clean and Parent /Carer would be contacted.

I will continuously monitor our policies, procedures and practices so we are constantly improving the level of the care we offer. I welcome all feedback from our Service Users, their families and our legislative bodies. I guarantee to listen to what they have to say and will encourage them to be heard and take it all on board to keep improving our service.

I consider this one of my highest priorities. I firmly believe that my staff is my best resource, and only through their skills, knowledge and attitude can our aims and objectives be fully met. I will achieve this by continuously advancing, listening to, supporting and encouraging my staff. To encourage confidence and to promote their happiness and wellbeing, I will always listen to any issues or ideas and support with their training and professional development. I believe that this will ultimately motivate them and enable them to provide a quality of care that meets all of our Service Users requirements and needs.
